Upgrades and Updates

Upgrades and updates help maintain the performance, functionality and security of existing systems and can extend their operational lifetime.

By upgrading and updating hardware and software, both the fish farmer and Stingray achieve sustainability benefits through increased efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and improved resource utilization.

Upgrading Hardware

Selected hardware components may be replaced or upgraded when this can improve performance or extend the operational lifetime of the node.

Hardware upgrades are assessed based on the condition of the node and whether continued operation is technically and economically viable.

The modular design allows selected components or subassemblies to be upgraded without replacing the complete node.

This is typically considered towards the end of the initial service period, provided the node is in sufficiently good condition to make extending its operational lifetime both technically and economically viable.

Software Updates

Software updates maintain performance, security and compatibility and allow new functionality to be introduced across existing nodes.

Updates are deployed remotely to nodes connected to power and the internet. If a node is offline or onshore when an update is released, the update is deployed when the node is reconnected.

Maintenance, upgrades and software updates help keep the system in operation for as long as technically and economically viable.

When further operation is no longer appropriate, the node enters the final phase of the wheel: return, disassembly, reuse and recycling.
