A more accurate carbon accounting
Until now, most of Stingray’s own greenhouse gas accounting relied on spend-based estimates, using economic input-output models to infer emissions from what was spent, rather than what was actually made, moved or used. In 2025, informed by the year’s LCA, Stingray moved to activity-based accounting for most emission categories – more than 80% of emissions are now based on actual material use, transport distances and operational activity, up from just 2% in 2024.
That means that emissions tied to raw materials, transport to the factory, production energy and outbound distribution are now calculated from our own data, rather than estimated from how much money was spent on these variables.

Is this information useful for you?
Activity-based supplier data lets you replace a generic economic proxy with something specific to what you’re actually buying, which improves both the accuracy and the data quality of your own Scope 3 disclosure. Spend-based estimates are increasingly challenged in assurance processes and certification audits, so this is becoming more material.

Why our emissions fell, and why we’re redefining our baseline
One thing worth being precise about – our total reported emissions fell substantially in 2025, from 16,351 to 12,417 tCO2e, despite a 71% increase in production. That should not be read primarily as an operation improvement, however. A large part of the change reflects the methodology shift itself, especially in capital goods, where spend-based approaches tend to overestimate emissions for equipment-heavy businesses like Stingray. We have decided to treat the 2025 result as our new baseline rather than a proof of reduction, because we want to do our best to compare apples with apples in the future.
